Acura Teases New ARX-06 Prototype
|
Acura offered a teaser for their next-generation race car, the Acura ARX-06. The Acura ARX-06 will participate in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship in the 2023 season. It will race in the Le Mans Daytona Hybrid class. The race car will replace the ARX-05. The 05 has had its fair share of victories. In partnership with Team Penske, the ARX-05 delivered driver, team, and manufacturer championships in 2019 and 2020. The partnership ended after 2020. Successively, Acura divided the two ARX-05 chassis between Meyer Shank Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing. These teams helped Acura get two consecutive Daytona victories in 2021 and 2022. The ARX-05 conforms to the Daytona Prototype International rules. According to an Acura press release, Acura takes credit for the ARX-06's bodywork and powertrain while Oreca made the chassis. The Le Mans Daytona Hybrid class overlaps with the Le Mans Hypercar class giving cars a chance to compete in these two series. Also, IMSA cars can compete in the Le Mans 24 hours. For now, Acura will focus on the IMSA. However, some manufacturers will launch campaigns in both the Le Mans and IMSA series.
